Exposure to photography and film came at a young age to David from his mother, celebrated international fashion model Evelyn Kuhn; and from his renowned fashion photographer and director uncle, Melvin Sokolsky. Throughout childhood David was casting his younger brother and friends for photo shoots and many short comedy films using his own canon camera or the family video cassette camera.

In 1990 with a job after school working at the local newspaper named the Patent Trader in Cross River, NY serving Northern Westchester County and Putnam County in New York State. At the Patent Trader David processed rolls of film for news and sports reporters and he became a master black and white darkroom printer. It was also while working at the Patent Trader newspaper that he was asked take photojournalist news and sports photography assignments.

In 1992 David went on to further study photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York and graduated in 1996 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in photographic arts and sciences. 

David Sokolsky started taking photographs professionally for the Patent Trader newspaper, and the Journal News newspaper in White Plains respectively. 

In July and August of 2003 David had his first solo photography exhibit, "Walks of Life”, at Audubon Greenwich located in Greenwich, Connecticut. The “Walks of Life” exhibit was a collection of wildlife photographs taken throughout the continental United States.

Recent projects have included photographic travel assignments to European cities London, Kiev, Budapest, and Prague. David’s current project is “Saturated Luminous Radiation” a new series of non-representational abstract limited edition photographs for display. The decorative contemporary photographs are available in a 40"x50" large size, and 20"x24" medium size, presented with images face mounted on plexiglass with polished edges.
